GABLINGEN, 1957 (18 K)
Gablingen Kaserne, Augsburg
Part of Gablingen Kaserne was constructed prior to World War I for use by the Royal Bavarian Air Force. During the 1930’s, the entire facility was enlarged as one of the two German Air Bases in the Augsburg area, the other one being Lechfeld.

After the war, Gablingen was primarily used by the U.S. Army as regular troop barracks, housing various elements of the different divisions stationed in the Augsburg area. (Don Godwin's Airborne Page features some photos taken at Gab.) Around 1970, the 3rd Brigade, 1st Infantry Division moved to Goeppingen and the present ASA facility was constructed. The buildings were no longer used as troop barracks and some have recently been demolished.
