PATTON URINATING IN THE RHINE (27 K)

Patton Tops Off the Rhine

The infamous photo of General George S. Patton, Jr. either just before or just after urinating in the Rhine River at Nierstein (near Oppenheim), taken on the same pontoon bridge that the 737th Tank Battalion had used only a few hours earlier to enter Germany. The 737th's tanks were strafed three times by a Messerschmitt Me109 during their crossing. U. S. Third Army photo (by T/Sgt. Paul K. Dougherty) from the Webmaster's collection.
