The Edward M. Zabielski Collection — Page 1
Ed passed away on June 23, 2001. Visit his memorial page by clicking here.

On this page, you'll find images contributed by Katie Zabielski, grand-daughter of Edward M. Zabielski, a former member of C Battery. Katie recently (6/30/2001) sent along the following two photos (click on the small photos below to view very large panoramic versions):

TRAINING BATTALION (21 K)
Battery D, 51st AA Training Battalion, Camp Callan, California, March 6, 1943.

C BATTERY (29 K)
C Battery, 225th AAA Searchlight Battalion, Unter Biberg, Germany, May 1945.

Any former members who can add to the captions are invited to send information to the Webmaster. Clicking "Enlarge the Photo" will open a second window to display the enlargement. Close the second window by clicking on the X in the upper right corner of the browser. (Clicking on the image will also load a larger version.)

Edward M. Zabielski (19 K)

Edward M. Zabielski in front of a pyramidal tent, the standard living quarters of a searchlight battalion on the move in the ETO.

Edward M. Zabielski (16 K)

Ed in front of a heavily sandbagged AA .50-caliber machine gun position. Interesting details include the water jacket that kept the barrel of the gun cool and Ed's GI leggings.

Edward M. Zabielski (21 K)

With a hulking SCR-268 radar set dominating the left-hand side of the photo, Ed and some buddies horse around with a German pistol.

Edward M. Zabielski (20 K)

Ed demonstrates a new Olympic sport: foxhole digging.

Edward M. Zabielski (24 K)

Ed takes a swig of water on what looks to be a hot summer day. Considering he's sporting the AA patch on his left shoulder, this location may be Camp Davis or Burgaw, North Carolina, home sweet home for the 225th during the Summer of '43.

Edward M. Zabielski (15 K)

Ed's all smiles in his personal ride, complete with MP escort at left. By the look of the car at right and those peppermint-stripe awnings on the opposite side of the street, this picture may have been taken in downtown Burgaw, NC in the Summer of '43.
