ROCKET ATTACK

Swoosh, Swoosh, Swoosh ...

A U.S. Navy ship converted into rocket-launching ship [formally designated an LSI(R), aka Landing Ship, Infantry (Rocket)] lays off the coast of Iwo Jima, firing salvo after salvo of 4.5-inch rockets in support of Marines trying to subdue the Japanese defenders of the island. Such rocket ships could fire as many as 600 rockets on one rocket run into the beach.
