During WWII, actress Hattie McDaniel (right) served as chairman of the Negro Division of the Hollywood Victory Committee, providing entertainment for Black servicemen stationed at stateside military bases. Fellow actress Bette Davis (left) was the only White member of McDaniel’s troupe.
